Growing up in rural Switzerland in the seventies, meant learning all the “women’s-crafts” first from my mother and then at school. While the women of our village organised a charity sale so that the community would be able to open a kindergarden, we, the kids, would help along with little chores we were able to do. Most meetings would be at our house, so there were lots of materials to play with!
During my school years textile craft lessons were always my favourites… So I became a craft teacher! I taught for eleven years. Then it was time for a change. I could not see myself teaching pupils till I am 65. Therefore I trained as an occupational therapist. For my work in a clinic for mentally ill people my former professions offers a well received background.
My first patchwork I did as a ten year old, after learning how to handle the sewing machine. At age twelve I sewed Log Cabins and Pineapples in school and knew then, that one day I would go to the States to take patchwork classes – which I did. Till about 2001, I worked more or less traditionally, lost interest and practically stopped working on patchwork.
But then in 2006 I found my way into Art Quilting and have tried many new or half forgotten techniques and I am having fun creating! Leaving the how-to-dos behind – but still on hand when wished for.
I am inspired by nature surrounding me and emotions I come across through my daily work.
